Do you hate the idea of camping? Me too, girl. Me too. You couldn’t pay me to go regular camping, but GLAMPING?! Sign me up!!!
A few months back, my bestie sent out a group message to our girlfriends about wanting to go glamping in the fall. All eight of us were in without question. Because we all live in Chicago, it is convenient to plan quick getaways to Michigan. As a result, we have all been there a million times. Luxury camping? This was new for ALL of us.

The Fields, located on a blueberry field in South Haven, Michigan, is self described as “a first-of-its-kind luxury glamping experience in one of the most in-demand destinations for vacation getaways in the United States.” I couldn’t agree more. If all camping was glamping, I’d camp all the time.
Checking In
Upon arrival, we parked our cars in a grass lot that appeared to be in the middle of nowhere. Surrounded by farmland, we couldn’t see the tents! The owner, Irene, warmly greeted us in her vintage Ford pickup. Our luggage [yes, luggage – glamping requires all the cutest fall attire in our closets, duh] and all of our weekend essentials were thrown in the back and we drove to the campsite.
After arriving to our luxurious tent, Irene kindly helped us unload the truck and situate us in our new home for the weekend. The tent curiously looked and felt like a hotel room with major camping vibes. Welcome to glamping!
In addition to making us feel at home, Irene took the time to teach us how to maintain our fire at night as well as how to work our bed warmers. Thank goodness because the weather dipped into the 40s!
I should note… you don’t have to START your own fire. The staff lights all the fires in the evening and you only have to maintain it. That means you just toss in a new log every 4 hours. So easy.
The Bathroom Situation
Obviously if you are interested in glamping the bathroom situation is going to be a main concern. Haha. You will be THRILLED to know there is a full bathroom in each tent equipped with a small vanity, toilet, shower, towels, and organic bathroom amenities. There are outlets for a hair dryer or straightener and a mirror that can be moved, albeit very small.
The Food
It must be said that everything we ate while glamping was fantastic. They have a farm-to-table approach with locally sourced ingredients.
On Friday evenings, the guests are welcomed with a slice of delicious homemade pie to enjoy by the fire and complimentary breakfast is served in the mornings. We relished in an assortment of quiches off the grill on Saturday morning and took a deep dive into the most delicious French toast bake on Sunday. On top of having the most delicious complimentary food you can imagine, they also provide the ingredients to make s’mores.
Lunch and dinner is on the guest, but rest assured it is not complicated. On Friday night we had Irene order us pizza and she had it picked up for us. It couldn’t have been easier. We personally wanted to grill on Saturday. The Fields has a common area fridge where we stored our perishable food. Each person in our group brought something to share. If grilling isn’t your thing, you can hire a chef to come in and cook for you! You are glamping after all.
Things to Do
Yoga
On Saturday morning, we brought in a yoga instructor and took our practice outside. It was incredible. The instructor mentioned a quote that stuck with all of us and it went something like, “the Earth plays music for those who listen.” I’ve never practiced yoga outside, but it was truly an organic experience connecting with your mind, body, and spirit in the peaceful countryside of Michigan. I highly recommend you coordinate this with Irene.
Beverage Tasting
There are so many wineries and breweries in Southwest Michigan. Because we were indulging in all things fall related, we opted to go to Virtue Cider for cider tastings. Insider tip: if the line is too long to purchase tastings, you can just buy a case of the variety pack! This works so well for a larger group. We happened to go here on a very busy day. We purchased two cases: the variety pack as well as the rosé cider, obviously.
Virtue Cider is conveniently located within walking distance to Modales Winery. We purchased tastings here and sat outside in the back area. It’s beautiful!
Blueberry Picking
As was previously stated, The Fields is located on a blueberry farm. I think the most idyllic time to visit would be during blueberry picking season. I am weirdly into blueberry picking… it’s a whole thing. 😉 Because our trip was planned for October, we didn’t get to do this. FYI – Blueberry picking season is in July and August.
Play Games & Bond
Don’t worry about rainy days or super cold nights. The Fields is loaded with fun games you can play in their common area or in your tent! If you have a preferred game you love to play, pack it!
Other Things to Do
Depending on the time of year you visit, the activities will vary slightly. The Fields is happy to help you plan your glamping experience. Paddle boarding, cheese making, sailing, fishing, and horseback riding are all listed on their website.
Checking Out
Checking out is just as easy as checking in. One of the staff members at The Fields will meet you at your tent and help you load up your belongings onto the back of the flatbed. Once you are all set, they drive you back to your car.
Have you ever been glamping?! I’d love to know about your experience!
XO, Lauren
